SEO - On Page optimization check-sum

This article intends to summarize guidelines, for creating a website in accordance with SEO requirements.

Terms and abbreviations:

SE - Search Engine.
SEO - Search Engine Optimization - is a process of creating a website, which meets the requirements of the major Search Engines, and ready to be promoted to the top of the Search Engine Result Pages (SERPs). SERP (serp) - Search Engine Result Pages. SE considers different pages of the website as separate entities, when serving them in serps. On the other hand, when evaluating the overall quality of the website – it considers all pages of the website as a whole.
Keywords density - is the percentage of times a keyword or phrase appears on a web page compared to the total number of words on the page. Used as a factor in determining whether a web page is relevant to a specified keyword or keyword phrase. Has to be kept around 3%.
Anchor – Is the name of the destination of the link. If you linking to a page, which you want to promote for keyword – “seo tips” – Anchor name has to be seo tips.
Internal link structure – Is linking of the pages of the website, in order to create a logical and clear navigation, from SE point of view. For example, when you offer “Seo Services” in the content of one page, make Seo Services link, anchored to the page of your website which describes SEO Services.
Index page – The Home page of the website.

Search Engine Optimization:

SEO consists of few major procedures that have to be undertaken at the time of the creation of the website. It includes:

Keywords Research - Research for the keywords related to the products we are marketing.

On-Page Optimization - Creating proper Meta tags (based on keywords research) including, but not limited to descriptions and titles; Optimization of the website content, including keywords density control; Optimization of internal link structure; Creation of the Sitemap for the website, and XML Sitemap and submitting it to SE.

This is a sum of measures for creating a Search Engine’s friendly website that could eventually perform well in SERPs, using SEM

Keywords Research:

Keyword research should not be undertaken ad hoc. It is the foundation for all natural search engine optimization techniques as the keywords finally selected based on search volume and likely ability to compete should be included in some, if not all, of the SEO on-page elements, as well as in any anchor text, back-linking to the relevant web pages.

Few factors should be considered when constructing keywords library for the website.

The best practice when selecting keywords, especially for a new website, is to pick more specific keywords. These keywords provide less competition for the website on the start up. Moreover long tail keywords generally provide higher conversion rates since people making long-tail searches are arguably further along in the buying cycle (a significant amount of prior knowledge is needed in order for the searcher to know which words to use).

Selected keywords and key phrases should be used in the following SEO on-page elements:

  • Title tag
  • Description tag
  • Other meta tags (keywords,etc.)
  • Headers & tags
  • Actual Content
  • Navigation links(in anchors)
  • Image names
  • Alt attributes (alt tags)

As well as in all anchor text back links to the relevant web pages.


On-Page Optimization:

The following parameters should be configured properly to comply with SEO standards.

Meta Tags:




Abstract Content - <meta name="abstract" content="seo services" />

Base href - example: <base href="" />

Robots tag - example: <meta name="robots" content="all, index, follow" />

Geo.region - example: <meta name="geo.region" content="CA-ON" />

Website Content check:

Keywords density - your major keywords density should be about 3%.

h1 and h2 tags should be present on each page and include keywords.

Create Internal links structure by linking your keywords to relevant pages.

Highlight keywords in texts with <strong> tags.

Make clear website navigation (menus).

Create Site Map.

Submit XML Site Map to SE.

Check website loading speed – Important!

Create quality outbound links to authority websites.

Create robots.txt file – to include pages restricted to robots.

After completing all the above requirements, start to work on your Off-Page Optimization by building Incoming links to your website.
